Fans planning to catch baseball and softball games at the new Rogers State University baseball-softball complex this spring now have an extra incentive to support the Hillcats. The RSU athletic department has announced no admission will be charged at home games this season.
“We hope that free admission will encourage everyone in Claremore and Rogers County to come and support the Hillcats,” said Wren Baker, RSU athletic director. “I feel extremely confident that everyone will be pleased with the park and the teams on the field. I can’t wait for Opening Day. “
The Hillcats newest on-campus facility features a professional playing surface on each field, spacious clubhouses on the back of the home dugouts, large digital scoreboards and batting cages adjacent to each field.
Both the baseball and softball programs are entering their second year of NAIA competition and their first as members of the Sooner Athletic Conference. After enduring a 2006 schedule comprised entirely of games played away from home, the Hillcats are looking forward to unveiling their new digs.
“Our kids are excited about opening up at home for the first time,” said Ron Bradley, RSU head baseball coach. “To have an on-campus facility of this caliber is a big step forward for our program.”
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to compete on one of the finest facilities in our region,” said Dawn Reed, RSU head softball coach. “It has already paid dividends in recruiting and we are looking forward to the home field advantage it will provide this spring.”
Spectators can enjoy the view from the grandstands located directly behind home plate on each field. Lawn chair areas are located between the dugouts and down the outfield lines and a full service concession stand will also be available.
The RSU baseball team is scheduled to open at home this weekend as it hosts Cameron University on Friday and Saturday. The Hillcat softball team will play its first home game Thursday, Feb. 15, against USAO. For a complete look at the RSU baseball and softball schedules visit www.rsuhillcats.com.
