Rogers State University is committed to the goal of achieving equal educational opportunity and full participation for students with disabilities outlined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability.

RSU ensures that no qualified individual with a disability will be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination on the basis of disability under any program or activity offered. Guidelines are reviewed on a continual basis for determination of services and adjusted according to current national and regional trends and policies.

The federal definition of a disability includes a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of a person’s major life activity; has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such impairment.

Description of Services

RSU provides service to all students with disabilities who are otherwise qualified as defined by federal regulations. Students are considered to be otherwise qualified if, with or without reasonable modification to rules, policies, or practices, the removal of architectural, communication, or transportation barriers, or the provision of auxiliary aids and services, they meet the same standards (academic, professional, technical, and behavioral) as other students. Rogers State University does not compromise on the standards of excellence and performance demanded of students to successfully complete their programs.

RSU will reasonably accommodate otherwise qualified students with a disability unless such accommodation poses an undue hardship or would result in a fundamental alteration in the nature of the service, program, or activity or undue financial or administrative burden. Students with disabilities are provided with reasonable academic and other accommodations. If you are curious about specific accommodations please do not hesitate to call the Student Disability Services Coordinator at 918-343-6828.

The impairment must meet criteria as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Examples of a major life activity includes but is not limited to walking, breathing, seeing, hearing, performing manual tasks, caring for oneself, learning, and working.

Self-Identification

Students enrolled in a college or university are required to self-identify if they would like to request services on the basis of a disability. Students may self-identify by registering with Student Disability Services located in the Office of Student Affairs.

Eligibility

Eligibility is determined on the basis of the presence of a disability and a need for services and accommodations to support an equal access to education. Students are required to register and provide appropriate documentation of a disability before receiving accommodations or services. Accommodations cannot be retroactive and begin only after documentation is received and a reasonable time for accommodation has been allowed.
