The Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology degree is designed to meet the growing demand for information technology specialists who are able to communicate effectively and are knowledgeable of business needs. Students may choose from the following options:

Option: Computer Network Administration

The Computer Network Administration Option includes the study of network operating systems, network security, configuration of network components, and emerging technologies. Careers for students with this option may include system network administrators, system specialists, and network specialists.

Option: Software Development and Multimedia

The Software Development and Multimedia Option focuses on object-oriented technology, software engineering, multimedia and web development, and emerging technologies. Careers for students with this option include web masters, web programmers, computer programmers, systems analysts, and software engineers.

Option: Game Development

The Game Development Option is designed to provide students with the highest possible quality education in the areas of game development and general education. It blends skills in art, computer science, mathematics, physics, and writing to provide graduates with the opportunity to pursue a career in the area of Computer Game Development including possible careers in game development for entertainment, training, and education. Graduates will also possess skills that will enable them to pursue other career paths such as multimedia artistry and animation, computer programming, and software engineering.

Option: Esports

Esports is the fastest growing niche of the gaming industry. Employment opportunities in Esports vary from gamers to writers, bloggers, event planners, team managers, multimedia graphic designers, and social media managers. This option provides an Esports generalized education with both technology and management tracks into the profession.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate competence in analyzing problems, designing, and implementing programs to solve the problems using computer programming languages.
  2. Students will integrate the design, implementation and administration of computer networks.
  3. Students will demonstrate knowledge and practical technology and business oriented skills to compete in the modern business environment.
  4. Students will be able to integrate the entire software life cycle including analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance.

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Applied Technology is to support the School of Business and Technology and RSU in their mission to prepare students to achieve professional and personal goals in dynamic local and global communities. Specifically, the organizational structure of the Department of Technology provides the technology course support for the Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as the Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Game Development, and the Bachelor of Technology in Applied Technology. As indicated, many of the programs offered by the Department of Applied Technology are available online.
