RSU to Host Public Reception for Regent Julie Carson May 24

A reception in honor of Regent Julie Carson, who was recently appointed to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at Rogers State University.

The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the third floor of the Stratton Taylor Library on the RSU campus in Claremore. A special program will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Carson will participate in her first meeting as a member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education on May 26. She was nominated to the position by Gov. Brad Henry and unanimously confirmed by the Oklahoma Senate.

Carson is an attorney, mother and community volunteer from Claremore. During the last five years, she as been involved in politics and community affairs, working as treasurer for the congressional campaigns of her husband, Brad Carson. She also has been involved in a variety of community service activities, including service on the Board of Directors of the Claremore Public School Foundation, Tri-County Court-Appointed Special Advocates and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rogers County. She is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma. In addition, she has served as a member of the RSU Community Advisory Board.

She was born in Kansas City, Mo., and relocated with her family to Tulsa where she attended and graduated from the Jenks Public Schools. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and completed her undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics. She earned her law degree from the University of Tulsa and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1998.

Carson began her career working in international business for MCI WorldCom as manager of geographic expansion planning and staff attorney. In those positions, she managed international network interconnection contracts and developed analytical models to identify strategic locations where MCI WorldCom could expand its international data network. Previously, she served as financial analyst for Superstar Satellite Entertainment (now TV Guide.)

She and her husband Brad Carson have one child, Jack David Carson. They live in Claremore.
