Art by emerging artists from high schools across northeast Oklahoma will be featured in an exhibition organized by Rogers State University March 26 through April 4 at A Gallery of the Arts, Wolf Productions in downtown Claremore.
The annual High Emerging Artists High School Competition and Exhibition will be held at the Wolf Gallery this year during construction of Baird Hall, the location of the RSU art gallery.
The juried exhibition will include drawings, paintings, and sculptures by high school seniors from across northeast Oklahoma, and high school students enrolled concurrently at RSU. Students selected to show their work in the exhibition will receive scholarships to attend RSU in the fall.
“This year, we will only be able to display art by the winners of the competition due to limited space in the gallery,” said Gary Moeller, RSU art professor. “As a result, the competition will be highly selective.”
The art will be judged by Susan Rainey, noted photographer and graphic artist of Tulsa. RSU art faculty will provide written critiques of each entry.
Entries in the competition must be submitted by 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, in room 209 of the Stratton Taylor Library on the RSU campus.
The award recipients will be announced at an opening reception for the exhibition from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Wolf Gallery.
RSU offers a bachelor of fine arts degree (B.F.A.) in visual arts with options in graphic design, multimedia and studio art, and a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, as well as associate’s degrees in art and liberal arts with major options in art history and graphic design.
