Entertainment industry veterans Roy Clark and Shirley Jones will be featured guests on “Green Country Perspectives with Sam Jones” this month on RSU Public Television.
Clark will be interviewed on the program at 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, and Jones will be featured at 9 p.m. Friday, May 27. Tulsa veteran news anchor Sam Jones hosts the talk show.
Virginia-born Clark is an award-winning actor, vocalist and philanthropist. He has headlined some of the world’s most prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Grand Palace in Brussels and the Rossiya Theatre in Moscow. In 2009 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Clark became a Grand Ole Opry member in 1987. He was a recurring actor on the classic television sitcom, “The Beverly Hillbillies,” was the first country music artist to guest host Johnny Carson’s “The Tonight Show,” and hosted the popular “Hee Haw” series for more than two decades. He and wife Barbara live in Oklahoma where he finds time to fish, fly airplanes and ride motorcycles.
Actress and singer Shirley Jones studied drama at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, performed with the Civic Light Opera Company, and, while in her teens, was crowned Miss Pittsburgh, a title that started her on a path to a career in show business.
She has appeared in such acclaimed motion pictures as “Oklahoma!” “Carousel,” “April Love,” “The Music Man” and “Elmer Gantry,” for which she received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1970, she made a transition to the small screen in ABC’s musical sitcom “The Partridge Family.” She was cast as the recently widowed mother of a singing family. The cast capitalized on the show’s popularity by recording albums which included songs like “I Think I Love You” and “Doesn’t Somebody Want to Be Wanted.”
“Green Country Perspectives with Sam Jones” is a weekly series designed to promote public affairs, cultural understanding and the arts, and is in its fifth year on RSU Public Television. A new program airs at 9 p.m. each Friday, with repeats at 6:30 p.m. Sundays and 1 p.m. Wednesdays.
