RSU Public TV Launches Local Gardening Show May 13

A new local television series focusing on gardening will premiere on Rogers State University Public Television at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.

The series “In the Garden with Rogers County Master Gardeners,” will feature a panel of expert guests each week and cover a variety of gardening topics.

“In the Garden” will be hosted by Annette Riherd, vice president of the Rogers County Master Gardeners, and many shows will feature the expertise of John Hasse, a horticulturist with the Rogers County Oklahoma State University Extension Program.

New episodes of the 30-minute program will air every other Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. and encore presentations of the program will air at 10 a.m. on Saturday and on alternate Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m.

The first episode will focus on how gardeners can maximize seasonal color using annuals and perennials.

“This locally produced show was made possible by the continued support of our viewers and underwriting support from Stillwater Milling and Stonebridge Gardening Center. We are excited to bring together the award-winning production abilities of RSU Public TV with the knowledge and experience from the Rogers County Master Gardeners,” said Dan Schiedel, general manager of RSU Public Television.

“We continue to explore ways to better serve our audience and this show is just one example of those efforts,” Schiedel said.

Many episodes will include demonstrations by experts including Hasse on ways viewers can improve their own gardens. Demonstrations will be filmed on location throughout Green Country.

Hasse also will host a special segment titled, “John’s Gardening Tip of the Week”. Other segments include a “Topic of the Day,” “Gardener’s Showcase,” “Questions & Answers” and a “Gardening Event’s Calendar.”

The show also offers viewers more information about the Master Gardeners and the OSU-Extension Programs.

Viewers are encouraged to email the show at [email protected] with their pictures, gardening questions and suggestions for topics to be addressed on future shows.
