RSU Public Television Launches Springfest Membership Drive

Rogers State University Public Television starts its spring membership drive on Wednesday, March 25, the university’s 100th birthday.  The drive runs from March 25 to April 5 and features entertaining and educational programming for the whole family.

Programming for the 12-day drive includes a documentary about the history of Rogers State University, a Woodturning Workshop special and musical programs by Billy Joel, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Carole King and Glenn Campbell.

The drive will kick-off with a health education program “Magnificent Mind at Any Age,” with Dr. Daniel Amen. The show will air at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, and it explores the many natural ways we can keep our brains healthy and enhance our brain power.

The station, based on RSU’s Claremore campus, reaches about 1.3 million people within a 75-mile radius of the campus and is proud to be Oklahoma’s only full-powered television station operated by a public university.

“The membership drive is an important way for RSU Public TV to raise station awareness, grow our membership base and raise the necessary funds for better programming and services for our viewers,” said Dan Schiedel, general manager of RSU Public TV.

RSU Public Television will debut its new documentary, “Rogers State University: The First 100 Years,” at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 29. The hour-long documentary, produced by RSU Public Television and Swearingen Communications, will take viewers on a 100-year journey through the history of the beautiful School on the Hill in Claremore.

The documentary features seldom-seen photographs and archival film footage bringing to life the legacies of each of the institutions that have taken up residence on the distinctive campus: Eastern University Preparatory School, Oklahoma Military Academy, Claremore Junior College, Rogers State College, Rogers University and now Rogers State University.

The station also will rebroadcast the highly acclaimed documentary, “Voices of Bartlesville” which debut last fall. The program airs  at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 28 as part of Springfest.

“Membership contributions are integral part of creating local programming and allows RSU Public Television to create and deliver programming and educational services its diverse audience,” Schiedel said.

RSU Public TV is working on a new local program, “In the Garden with Rogers County Master Gardeners” which will begin airing in May. The program will cover basic gardening techniques; answer common questions about climate-appropriate plants and help viewers turn their brown thumbs green.

RSU Public TV broadcasts on digital channel 35.1 and 35.2, Tulsa and Claremore cable channel 19, Cable Channel 4 in Bartlesville and satellite channel 35 across northeastern Oklahoma.
