The Rogers State University Jazz Band and its new Choir will perform a joint concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in the Centennial Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Jazz Band, completing its third year, will perform big band standards such as “Mood Indigo” and modern jazz standards including “Count Bubba’s Revenge,” said Joe Cernuto, band director.
“The band has been working very hard and we’re looking forward to a wonderful concert,” Cernuto said. “We’ve worked on some very difficult music and hope to present a great show for our audience.”
In addition, the new RSU Choir will present a first-ever concert performance. The choir is directed by Lonnie Liggitt, adjunct instructor. Liggitt has many years of experience as a choir director, composer and recording studio producer. The choir will perform three songs at the concert, including a joint song with the Jazz Band titled “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Sing, Sing, Sing.”
In addition, the RSU Choir will present a public concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the Centennial Center. The Jazz Band has been invited to perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Mayfest in Tulsa.
