Rogers State University Head Softball Coach Dawn Reed achieved a career milestone victory on the final day of the 2007 regular season Tuesday.
In just her sixth season as a head coach and second at RSU, Reed picked up career win No. 200 and added No. 201 for good measure as her Hillcats swept Oklahoma Christian in a doubleheader at the Hillcat Complex.
Reed has compiled a career record of 201-96 in six seasons as a head coach. She led the Hillcats to back-to-back 29-win seasons in 2006 and 2007 and guided RSU to its first national ranking in 2007. The Hillcats are currently ranked No. 22 in the national polls and are expected to receive an invitation to the Region VI tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas next week. The invitation would mark the first post-season appearance for the RSU athletics program.
Before joining RSU, Reed served as the head softball coach at Bacone College. She established a nationally recognized program at Bacone, which finished ranked in the top 15 in consecutive seasons. Her teams earned three Region VI tournament bids and produced five All-Americans, one Academic All-American, 10 all-region and 20 all-conference student-athletes.
She reaffirmed her reputation as a program builder, leading the Hillcats to an impressive 29-17 record in their first season of competition in 2006. Playing a more demanding schedule in 2007, the Hillcats again reached 29 regular season wins, gained national recognition and positioned themselves for a post-season run.
A Skiatook native and former University of Tulsa standout, Reed played third base from 1996-2000 for the Golden Hurricane. While at Tulsa she was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete, a Western Athletic Conference All-Conference player, and TU’s Offensive Player of the Year. Reed served one year as an assistant coach for the Golden Hurricane before being named the head coach at Bacone in 2001.
Reed also serves as Senior Women’s Administrator for RSU athletics. She received a bachelor’s of science in business administration and a master’s of arts from the University of Tulsa.
