Oklahoma poet Dr. Jeanetta Calhoun Mish will be giving a poetry reading at Rogers State University at 3:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, in the Baird Hall Performance Studio. The reading is free and open to the public.
A poet, writer and literary scholar, Mish earned her Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2009. She serves as the Director of The Red Earth Creative Writing MFA program at Oklahoma City University, where she also is a faculty mentor in writing pedagogy and the craft of poetry.
Dr. Mish has published critical essays in “Stunned into Being: Essays on the Poetry of Lorna Dee Cervantes” and “Mediating Chicana/o Culture: Multicultural American Vernacular.”
Her first poetry book, “Tongue Tied Woman,” won the Edda Poetry Chapbook Competition for Women in 2002. Her second poetry collection, “Work Is Love Made Visible,” won the 2010 Oklahoma Book Award for Poetry, the 2010 Western Heritage Award for Poetry from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the 2010 WILLA Award for Poetry from Women Writing the West.
As a contributing editor, Dr. Mish regularly writes essays for “Oklahoma Today.” She also is a contributing editor for “Sugar Mule: A Literary Journal” and is editor of award-winning Mongrel Empire Press.
