Hillcats Headed for Region VI Tournament

The Rogers State softball team earned the fourth seed in the Region VI Tournament bracket released Monday afternoon, marking the first post-season birth for Hillcat athletics.

The tournament will feature the top six teams from Region VI in a double elimination tournament at Oran Good Park in Farmers Branch, Texas, May 10-11. The Hillcats, ranked No. 25 in the last regular season poll, will face fifth seeded Northwood University (Cedar Hill, Texas) in the first game of tournament play at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The Knights finished the regular season 30-18, 18-6 in Red River Athletic Conference play.

The Hillcats completed their regular season at 29-13 and received an at-large invitation to the Region VI Tournament. RSU will compete as member of the Sooner Athletic Conference in 2007-08. The Hillcats join three SAC schools and two RRAC programs in the tournament field. Third ranked Oklahoma City received the top seed while RRAC champion Houston Baptist filled the second slot. St. Gregory’s earned the third seed and Northwestern Oklahoma State rounded out the field as the final entry. The field features four ranked teams, including three programs currently in the top 10.

It will be the fourth Region VI Tournament appearance for RSU Coach Dawn Reed and her first with Rogers State. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, Ala., May 18-23.
