Hillcats Close Out Regular Season with Sweep of OC

Rogers State battled through soggy conditions Tuesday to defeat Oklahoma Christian twice on the final day of the regular season at the Hillcat Complex.

RSU claimed two five-inning victories on Senior Day in Claremore. The Hillcats hammered the Eagles in Game 1 in route to a 14-5 run-rule victory. Game 2 was called after five innings with RSU leading 4-0.

The Hillcats cranked out 14 hits in Game 1, scoring five times in the opening frame. Randi Tyler made it 6-1 in favor of the home team when she belted her third home run of the season over the left field wall in the third inning. RSU greeted Eagles relief pitcher Tracy Washam by scoring four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Kelli Dunagan and Kacy Ward laced back-to-back RBI doubles to lead the hit parade. Senior Somer Dykes delivered the final blow with a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the fifth inning. The blast was the fourth of the year for Dykes as the Hillcats reached the run-rule, 14-5.

Dykes and Taylor Whisenhunt paced RSU with three hits each. Dunagan (18-5) picked up the win for RSU after pitching the first four innings. She allowed five runs on eight hits and fanned five.

RSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of Game 2 as the skies opened up and the rains began to fall. Megan Wood ripped an RBI triple into the right field corner to put the Hillcats on the board. Both Wood and Sydni Jones scored on wild pitches later in the inning. The game was halted for 15 minutes in the top of the third inning as the rain storms picked up. The precipitation eventually let up and the teams were able to complete five innings to make the game official.

Stephanie Eggers (11-8) earned the victory with a five-inning two-hit shutout. She yielded just two walks and struck out five.

RSU Head Coach Dawn Reed achieved a milestone victory in Game 1 with career win No. 200. Reed joins elite company, reaching the 200 club in just her sixth year as a head coach.

The No. 22 Hillcats completed the regular season with a 29-13 record. They will now await an invitation to the Region VI tournament to be played May 10-11 in Farmers Branch, Texas.
