Hillcat Win Streak Snapped by OBU

Rogers State kept Oklahoma Baptist off the scoreboard for the first four innings but the Bison tallied runs in each of the next five and halted the Hillcats 10-game winning streak with an 11-3 victory at Hillcat Field on Tuesday.

The Hillcats plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning and carried a 2-0 lead into the fifth. Three hits and an error allowed the Bison to reach RSU starter Dusty Carriger for two unearned runs in the fifth to tie the game, 2-2. OBU took the lead in the sixth as Josh LaTour doubled and scored on a single by Keith Johnson. Carriger was chased from the game in the seventh and the Bison roughed up freshman Josh Walker and junior Horacio Aldrete for six more runs. A two-run homer by Frank Villa in the ninth gave OBU an 11-2 lead.

RSU ended a six inning scoring drought in the ninth when Ryan Salsbury scored on a single by Andrew Sherman. However, Sherman was cut down trying to advance to second on the play for the last out of the game.

The loss put an end to the longest winning streak in school history for RSU baseball. Ryan Littlejohn also had his hitting streak snapped at eight games. Carriger (4-2) suffered the loss for RSU as Bison starter Rod Ratliff (1-1) earned his first win on the season. Zack Bacon was the only Hillcat to record two hits on the day.

Rogers State fell to 16-12 with the loss but will look to start a new winning streak tomorrow. The Hillcats will face Park University at Hillcat Field on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
