RSU Holiday Art Sale to Help Students Study Abroad

Holiday shoppers can find unique and interesting gifts at a special exhibition and sale of art by students and faculty members at Rogers State University.

The Holiday Art Sale will be held Nov. 11-23 in the gallery in Baird Hall, on the RSU campus in Claremore.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will assist RSU art students to study abroad in Montone, Italy.

“Our holiday art sales were popular in the past, so we thought this would be a good time to resurrect the idea in our new gallery,” said Gary Moeller, RSU art professor.

The new, larger gallery opened in the expanded and renovated Baird Hall this fall.

Thirty to 100 percent of the profits from the holiday art sale, depending on the artist’s wishes, will assist RSU students to participate in the Montone Study Abroad Program this year and in coming years, Moeller said.

Each summer, RSU offers the four-week summer art program in Montone, a small town in the Umbrian region of Italy. The students create and exhibit their art while in Montone, and travel in Italy during their stay.

“This is a great way for shoppers to find inexpensive and completely original gifts, and support the education of RSU students at the same time,” Moeller said.

In addition to Moeller, RSU faculty artists participating in the show include Bryce Brimer, Denny Schmickle, Kirk Weller, Della Easton, DeAnn Mathany, Sharon McKee, Steven Rosser, Randi Narcomey and Linda Coward.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, to accommodate evening shoppers.
