Governor Mary Fallin announced she is appointing Phil B. Albert to the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, which also governs Rogers State University and Cameron University. He will replace Jon R. Stuart, who has served on the board since 2002.
Albert is president of Claremore-based Pelco Structural LLC, a manufacturing company that specializes in the design and manufacture of steel pole structures for the traffic, lighting and utility industries. He will serve a seven-year term as regent if his appointment is confirmed by the Oklahoma Senate. He previously was appointed by Fallin to serve as chairman of the Will Rogers Memorial Commission.
“Phil is a proven leader whose business acumen will be beneficial to the board of regents for OU,” Governor Fallin said.
Albert has 31 years of executive operating experience after graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma Baptist University.
“There is no greater challenge facing the state of Oklahoma today than to ensure that higher education is a relevant, nimble and meaningful investment of time and resources on behalf of the next generation of students, government and business leaders,” said Albert. “This is a time that presents an opportunity to reform higher education and I am honored that the governor has entrusted me to take part in that task.”
He started his career at a Tulsa accounting firm before moving to the manufacturing sector in 1981. He spent 23 years at JEM Engineering, including 10 years as president, before partnering with Phil Parduhn in 2005 to open Pelco Structural.
Albert currently serves on the board of directors for New Dominion LLC and the advisory boards for UMB Bank and BancFirst. He also is chairman of the Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority and chairman-elect of the Tulsa Regional Chamber.
