RSU Pryor Hosting Summer Tech Camps

RSU Summer Academy LogoRogers State University Pryor will be hosting a series of tech-focused summer camps for area students going into 6th through 8th grades.

Each camp will run for three days with registration costs varying depending on the event. Camp dates are:

  • Girls STEM Camp, June 25-27
  • Industrial STEM Camp, July 9-11
  • AeroCamp Summer Academy, July 16-18
  • Advanced Applications Camp, July 23-25

The AeroCamp Summer Academy is designed to give participants exposure to exciting hands-on learning opportunities with aerospace-related technologies through close interaction and competition. Activities will include designing, building and flying rockets and drones in a fast-paced team environment. Special thanks to Google for making AeroCamp Summer Academy possible through the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) grant and to Google volunteers for their hands-on assistance during the camp. Cost for the camp is $100 per child.

The Advanced Applications Camp allows students the opportunity to build small robots and quadcopter drones. The quadcopters will be taken home at the conclusion of the camps. This camp is an extension of the AeroCamp summer academy. Students should attend the AeroCamp first or have the knowledge to be able to attend. Grant funding provided by the OD Mayor Foundation. Cost is $100 per child.

The Girls STEM Camp focuses on the interactive software “Alice” and “Animation-ish.” Both of these software programs allow students to create interactive worlds and stories using coding and creativity. Cost is $75 per child.

The Industrial STEM Camp focuses on the hands-on application of circuits. Using Snap Circuits, students will learn the working components of a circuit and how currents flow. Students also will be able to hear first-hand from industries at the MidAmerica Industrial Park about how these lessons have real-world applications. This camp is supported by the MidAmerica Industrial Park. This camp is free to attend.

Each camp has an 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. check-in, and the sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the RSU Pryor campus, located at 2155 Highway 69A inside the MidAmerica Industrial Park. Campers will receive a light breakfast and a lunch each day. All campers also will receive takeaways from the activities, as well as a t-shirt and drawstring bag.

Each three-day camp requires registration with payment received two weeks prior to the camp in order to participate. Cancellation must be made two weeks prior to the start of camp to receive a refund.
