Jack and Mary Lee SpinksRSU Endowment Honors Gilstrap Legacy

Jack and Mary Lee Spinks recently established an RSU student scholarship endowment that honors the legacy of her father, Col. Lee Gilstrap, who this summer will receive the OMA Alumni Association’s President’s Award. The Colonel Lee F. and Doris Hays Gilstrap “Reaching Greater Potential” Endowment will support student scholarships for deserving RSU students who have faced challenges but have the potential to overcome their circumstances to reach their potential in their academic and personal lives.

Jack and Mary Lee established the scholarship in order to honor her parents’ longtime affiliation with OMA, including Col. Gilstrap’s service as commandant, athletic director, coach and teacher. Memories of her family’s time at OMA were influential with Mary Lee and helped impress upon her the power of education to help transform lives. Jack and Mary Lee said this scholarship endowment help ensure that her parents’ legacy – and that of OMA — will continue for generations to come.
