Student Art Works on Display through April 12

student artworksThe Rogers State University Department of Fine Arts is exhibiting works by RSU students as part of its Spring 2018 Juried Art Exhibit, which will run through April 12.

During the show, four students earned a total of $2,000 in tuition waivers in conjunction with awards for the top three student winners and the best-in-show award, including:

  • Paige Winnett, a visual arts/studio senior from Tulsa, best in show for her charcoal work, “Sunflowers”
  • Spencer Plumlee, a visual arts/studio senior from Tulsa, first place for her acrylic, “Self-Portrait”
  • Jessicca McKelvey, a visual arts/photography senior from Tulsa, second place for her inkjet print, “Mars Rover”
  • Sean Tyler, a visual arts/studio senior from Tulsa, third place for her acrylic and oil painting entitled “Memento Mori”

The art show showcases the works of 23 students in a variety of media and artistic styles. Additional students featured in the show, include: Kristen Carrow, a junior from Skiatook; Blanca Esparza, a sophomore from Tulsa; Erin Gordon, a senior from Pryor; Darion Grant, a sophomore from Claremore; Shelby Hobbs, a senior from Claremore; Tiffany Holcomb, a junior from Owasso; Stephanie Ivison, a junior from Winnipeg, Canada; Kally Jones, a  junior from Ramona; Morgan Jones, a junior from Chouteau; Jesse McIntyre, a senior from Cushing; Sarah Morris, a junior from Claremore; Tabitha Mundell, a junior from Tulsa; Cayla Ray, a junior from Claremore; Tonya Sappington, a senior from Tulsa; Elizabeth Schmitt, a junior from Bartlesville; Melissa Scott, a freshman from Collinsville; Audrey Thompson, a senior from Claremore; Bridget Williams, a junior from Claremore; and Jenny Wilson, a sophomore from Inola.

The Foundations Gallery is free and open to the public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The art show will be available for public viewing through Thursday, April 12.

RSU offers a bachelor’s degree in visual arts with options in graphic design, multimedia, photographic arts, or studio arts, as well as an associate degree in liberal arts with an option in Native American studies. The department also offers minors in art, art history, graphic design, music, and Native American studies.
