Social Justice League Holds Book Drive

OK messages book drive

During the Spring 2018 semester, the Social Justice League provided an opportunity for RSU students to contribute to wellness across the state with a book drive for the Oklahoma Messages Project, a nonprofit organization serving children with incarcerated parents.

According to the Oklahoma Messages Project website, 96,000 children have lost a parent to prison or jail in Oklahoma and Oklahoma incarcerates more women per capita than any other state. The Messages Project goals are multifaceted including enhancing the literacy of both parent and child while increasing the ability of the parents to stay connected to their children.

The book drive at RSU resulted in over 150 new books being donated to the OK Messages Project!  These books will be used in the creation of recordings by OK Messages Project videographers with each parent reading a book and including a message to their child. The book and short video will then be delivered to their child for viewing and reading.
