Rogers State University’s cybersecurity team, the Cyberspace Association student organization – aka the “CyberCats” – finished the season with another national ranking by the National Cyber League.
Based upon individual and team game scores in the spring 2025 semester, the CyberCats finished 67th out of 510 colleges and universities in the Cyber Power Rankings, finishing as the highest-ranking team in the state of Oklahoma.
“Our students continue to compete head-to-head with top-tier R1 institutions and consistently rise to the challenge,” said Dr. R. Curtis Sparling, Department Head and Assistant Professor of Technology and Justice Studies at RSU. “Their results speak to the strength of our program and their dedication to developing real-world cybersecurity skills.” He additionally stated, “The success of RSU’s cybersecurity teams reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence in STEM education and career readiness in high-demand fields.”
At the end of the fall 2024 semester, the CyberCats were ranked 78th nationally, reflecting the growing program’s increasing recognition and accomplishments on the national stage.
The National Cyber League (NCL) is an inclusive, performance-based, learning-centered collegiate cybersecurity competition. NCL is open to high school and college students and is a community and virtual training ground in which students hone their technical cybersecurity skills.
The Cyber Power Rankings were created by Cyber Skyline in partnership with the NCL. Every year, more than 10,000 students from more than 500 colleges and universities and 100 high schools across the US participate in the NCL competitions. These rankings represent the ability of students from these schools to perform real-world cybersecurity tasks on the Cyber Skyline platform.
Students had to identify hackers from forensic data, pentest and audit vulnerable websites, recover from ransomware attacks, and more. Schools are ranked based on their top team performance, their top student’s individual performance, and the aggregate individual performance of their students.
