RSU-TV Names Special Projects Coordinator

Paula Harrell has been named special projects coordinator for RSU-TV, the public television station at Rogers State University.

Previously employed with Central and South West Corporation as a communication consultant, Harrell has a background in video production in a corporate environment.

Harrell will be responsible for a variety of fundraising activities for RSU-TV.

“I am excited to be a part of public education television, especially RSU-TV. We currently have a solid base of programming reaching a variety of viewers, however, we hope to expand and add some diversity,” Harrell said.

RSU-TV began operation in 1987 and is the only public university-operated, full-power broadcast television station in Oklahoma. RSU-TV broadcasts on UHF channel 35 and on 76 cable outlets, reaching more than 1.2 million potential viewers.

“This community has a real treasure in RSU-TV. It’s truly your public television station. Our viewers have a voice in what type of shows we air,” she said.

As special projects coordinator, Harrell’s duties include obtaining underwriting for programming, gaining pledge support from viewers and developing methods to raise funds for the television station.

“As a public television station we’ll be doing some of the traditional things to raise money, such as underwriting programming and asking for pledge support from viewers. But the real excitement comes from trying to find some unique ways to raise money. One possibility is an on-air auction sometime in the future. It would be a lot of fun for us and for our viewers. It’s hard to pass up a good auction,” she said.

Other ways the station plans to raise money include better utilizing its production staff. “We have a talented production staff with a tremendous amount of experience. So we plan to do a lot more local productions,” she said.

RSU-TV broadcasts Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to midnight. Anyone interested in supporting RSU-TV and public television can contact Harrell at 343-7648 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
