RSU to Showcase Faculty Talent on March 6-7

Faculty members at Rogers State University will display their musical and literary talents during the “Faculty Showcase” on Thursday and Friday, March 6-7, on the RSU campus in Claremore.

The event will begin at 7:07 p.m. at the Will Rogers Auditorium. This year’s performance features music, poetry and musical theatre.

The bill includes musical performances by RSU faculty members including Joe Cernuto, RSU band director. Cernuto will play the trumpet as well as interpret a Pablo Neruda poem with Professor Guido Arze, assistant professor of Spanish. Adjunct instructor Shari Munroe also will perform on piano and vocals. The program is being produced by Cernuto and Dr. Jeff Gentry, head of the Department of Communications.

The 60-minute program includes a musical Readers Theatre presentation of “Seeker,” with script by Gentry and music by Cat Stevens (now known as Yusuf Islam). “Seeker” presents a story of friendship and self discovery set in 19th Century England. The ensemble cast includes Renee Cox, English instructor; Bonnie Paul, administrative assistant for the Department of English & Humanities; Dr. David Blakely, theatre program director; Cernuto and Gentry. Munroe will accompany on piano, and Cernuto and Paul add guitar accompaniment.
