RSU to Host “Distance After Dark” Cross Country Event Aug. 31 at Tulsa’s Mohawk Park

Rogers State University Athletics Department will host a unique sporting event like no other.

“RSU Distance After Dark” will host high school and college teams in a cross country track meet under the lights at the Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa Aug. 31.

“This is a very unique cross country event in that, it’s going to be held in the evening and under the lights at the Mohawk Sports Complex,” said Matt Kennedy, RSU head coach for cross country and track and field. “People can come, bring their own chairs or blankets, watch the runners compete and cheer on their favorite teams. It should be a fun time.”

In addition to the cross country competition, live entertainment will be provided and food trucks will be on site for the evening.

The event will be held on an entirely grass looped course, with one sidewalk crossing covered with artificial turf.

Scheduled events include an open girl’s two-mile, an open boy’s three-mile, 5A-6A girl’s three-mile, 5A-6A boy’s three-mile, college women’s three-mile and college men’s four-mile.

A trophy will be awarded to top team in each race, with individual Nike awards to be given to the top 10 college runners.

RSU Distance After Dark races start at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Mohawk Sports Complex, 3500 E. 56th St. North in Tulsa. There is a $5 parking admission fee.
