Community members are invited to join Rogers State University as it celebrates its 25th year as a four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institution with a cookout during Welcome Week.

Slated for Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 5:30 p.m. on the DCTC patio and lawn on RSU’s Claremore campus, the RSU 25th Anniversary Cookout will be free for community members. The evening will include food, live entertainment by Tulsa musician Western Horn, free unlimited sno-cones served in 25th anniversary commemorative cups, yard games including cornhole, ladder golf, giant Jinga and more to celebrate its 25th year as an accredited four-year university.

“Since our accreditation to grant four-year degrees in 2000, RSU has served the needs of the community, state and region by providing a variety of bachelor’s degrees for its students, helping them to shape their futures, to reach their educational goals, and to prepare them to make a positive impact in the world,” said RSU President Dr. Don Raleigh. “We invite the community to the Hill to join us in recognizing and celebrating this very special occasion.”

Rogers State University received its official accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2000, transitioning it into a four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institution.

The accreditation allowed RSU to begin offering bachelor’s degrees starting in the fall 2000 semester.

Among its earliest offered four-year degrees were Business Information Technology, Applied Technology, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences. These degrees were decided upon based on the needs at the time of prospective students as well as business and industry in Tulsa and Northeast Oklahoma.

Following the cookout, a screening of “Back to the Future” will be held on the lawn of the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center, with drinks and popcorn provided. For more information about Rogers State University, visit www.rsu.edu.
