The Rogers State University Theatre Program will present the classic southern play “Steel Magnolias” on April 5-7 and April 12-14. The performances will be held at 7:07 p.m. at the Will Rogers Auditorium on the Claremore campus.
Written by Robert Harling, “Steel Magnolias” tells the story of six very different women who come together in a beauty salon to share their secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a little neighborly gossip for good measure. The play was the basis for the 1989 hit movie of the same name.
“Steel Magnolias” is directed by Dr. Mary Mackie, RSU English and Humanities Department Head and Professor. The all-female cast includes Bonnie Paul of Claremore as M’Lynn; Tara Cox, a 2009 RSU graduate from Adair, as Ouiser; Kessiah Neff, a 2016 RSU graduate from Claremore, as Truvy; Abby Peters, a public affairs senior from Adair, as Shelby; Hannah Gray, a communications sophomore from Tulsa, as Annelle; and Celina Davis from Claremore, as Clairee.
Admission to the theatre production is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $3 for students, staff and faculty with RSU ID. Tickets are available at the door.
In a show of support for area educators, RSU Theatre is providing free admission to Claremore public school teachers and support staff to performances throughout the run of “Steel Magnolias.”
