RSU Radio, RSU Communications Students Honored at Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Conference

RSU Radio and RSU Communications students recently traveled to the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Conference in Tulsa. Several RSU Radio and RSU Communications students were awarded top honors at the annual 2024 Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) Convention.

Held April 4 at the River Spirit Event Center in Tulsa, the OBEA Convention allowed students to attend sessions moderated by Oklahoma broadcast professionals, such as KevinBenz.news Head Coach Kevin Benz (“Covering Polarized Issues: Election 2024 – Know Your Story), LocalBroadcastSales.com President Gary Moore (Mastering Today’s Sales and Buying Dynamics), Borrell Associates, Inc. President Jim Brown (A New Era for Local Media: The Role of AI), and others.

RSU students in attendance included Drew Dunham of Pryor, Isaac Dean of Meeker, Skylar Scott of Collinsville, Cris Loya of Pryor, Jace Bain of Pryor, Danilla Pazmino Charpentier of Tulsa, Andrea Cosper of Inola, Cacie Drewes of Pryor, Aby Molina of Tulsa, Elizabeth Lyles of Sapulpa, and Macy Gordon of Owasso.

During the awards presentation, five RSU students were recognized in the statewide media competition. Honorees included Skylar Scott, Elizabeth Lyles, Andrea Cosper, Jace Bain and Lacie Drewes.

Students earned awards in the following categories:

Audio:

  • 1st Place Public Service Announcement: Elizabeth Lyles and Skylar Scott – “Littering PSA”
  • 2nd Place Personality Talent Reel: Skylar Scott
  • 2nd Place Entertainment/Talk: Skylar Scott – “The Major Decision”
  • 2nd Place Station Promo: Elizabeth Lyles – “In The Zone Promo”
  • 3rd Place Narrative: Lacie Drewes – “Spooky Stories 2023”
  • 3rd Place Station Promo: Skylar Scott – “Her Voice Promo”

Scriptwriting:

  • 1st Place Long Script: Jace Bain – “Crimewavers”

Video:

  • 2nd place Video Essay: Andrea Cosper – “Moo-Ving Past Your Fears”

Additionally, student Aby Molina won the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation Scholarship at the event.

Rogers State University’s Department of Communications offers the Bachelor of Arts in communications with emphases available in broadcasting and new media, communications arts, and strategic communications.
