RSU Public Television Kicks Off Springfest Membership Drive

Rogers State University Public Television starts its spring membership drive this week. The drive runs from April 1-13 and features music and educational programming for the whole family.

The station, based on RSU’s Claremore campus, reaches about 1.2 million people within a 75-mile radius of the campus and is proud to be Oklahoma’s only full-powered television station operated by a public university.

Programming for the 12-day drive includes a Bee Gees music program honoring their brother Maurice Gibb. The show will air at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Another popular music group, the Bare Naked Ladies, will entertains viewers with their special “Bare Naked Ladies: talk to the Hand,” a hit-filled concert by the Canadian band.

“The membership drive will help the growing station raise awareness, members and necessary funds for better programming and services for our viewers,” said Dan Schiedel, general manager of RSU Public TV.

RSU Public Television recently completed broadcasting much of the Hillcats men’s and women’s home basketball games from the Claremore Expo.

“It was exciting to put Hillcat athletics on the airwaves and with viewer support we hope to continue sports programming in the future,” Schiedel said.

In addition, the station is filming a documentary about the history of Bartlesville, “Voices of Bartlesville” will be in production this summer.

The membership drive will also include the premier of the third and final season of the popular British series, “Rosemary and Thyme.”

Many special guests will appear on RSU Public TV during the membership drive including Senator Sean Burrage and Representative Tad Jones.

A special treat…Bowfire, one of the hottest new shows to hit the stage, is quickly becoming a major international success. It is at once an exceptionally high quality music experience and a fast paced theatrically staged show.  Bowfire has continually proven itself to be a “must see” event everywhere it is presented, with audiences clamoring for more and standing ovations routine. Bowfire presents an “All Star Show” of the finest lineup of fiddle and violin virtuosos ever assembled on one stage.

As part of the group’s nationwide tour they will be making a stop in Tulsa next month and RSU Public Television supporters have a chance to meet these musicians in person.

RSU Public Television is offering a host of gifts for contributors including a Bowfire package which for a $300 gift to the station includes two tickets to the Mother’s Day, May 11, Bowfire performance at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, a CD, a DVD, and a meet and greet dessert reception following the performance.

RSU Public TV broadcasts on UHF Channel 35, Tulsa and Claremore cable channel 19, DISH TV channel 35 and satellite systems across northeastern Oklahoma.
