RSU Pryor Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast Benefits Pryor, Mayes County Students

RSU President and First Lady Larry and Peggy Rice, along with the RSU Foundation Board of Directors, invite the public to have breakfast for a worthy cause.

The RSU Pryor Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast returns this September to provide scholarships for students attending RSU Pryor, as well as those from Mayes County attending RSU in Claremore.

“Every year since 2010, we’ve hosted a scholarship fundraising breakfast, the proceeds of which have gone to students at the (RSU) Pryor campus,” said Tonni Harrald, senior director of development. “This year, the funds we raise are going to assist not only students who attend school at the Pryor campus, but students from Pryor and Mayes County who are attending school on the Claremore campus.”

To fund the event, RSU invites area businesses and individuals from the Pryor and Mayes County areas to show their support for students attending RSU by becoming event sponsors.

“Sponsorships are our biggest source of revenue for the event, with these opportunities available at several levels,” Harrald said. “These contributions will then provide scholarships for students attending RSU Pryor and, this year, students from Mayes County attending RSU.”

Sponsorships begin at $750 and must be submitted no later than Saturday, Sept. 10.

There is no cost to attend the breakfast, but contributions to the scholarship program are appreciated.

Harrald said the decision to broaden the scope of the scholarship from Pryor only to those on either campus from Pryor or Mayes County was one for the benefit of the students.

“The campuses offer slightly different courses and programs, so by making the scholarship also available to students from Pryor or Mayes County who are attending RSU in Claremore, it opens up more educational opportunities for them,” she said.

Scholarship recipients are eligible to receive up to $1,000 a semester, significantly reducing the out-of-pocket expense for their education.

Those chosen to receive scholarships from the fundraising breakfast are selected among those who have applied online for a Foundation-funded scholarship – more than 750 in all have applied for Foundation scholarships this year, Harrald said – have completed their FASFA and are eligible.

“We’ve been very fortunate through the years that this has been a successful fundraiser,” she said. “Funds raised have been critical for the continuation of the scholarship program for the Pryor area students, and we are so grateful to our sponsors. The contributions made – regardless of the amount – are greatly appreciated, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that they help give students the chance for a better life.”

Following the scholarship fundraising breakfast, the RSU Foundation’s next event will be the annual Scholarship Auction & Dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa on Nov. 17.

The Rogers State University Pryor campus is the only university serving the Pryor and Mayes County Area. On average, more than 350 students attend the RSU Pryor campus each semester.

RSU Pryor Scholarship Fundraising Breakfast will be held 8-9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022 at MidAmerica Event Center, 5162 Webb Street in Pryor.
