Rogers State University professors Drs. Diana Clayton and David Tait will be reviewing two books regarding the 2006 Duke University lacrosse case, in the Stratton Taylor Library room 207 at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14th.
The books being reviewed are “It’s Not About the Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Case and the Lives It Shattered,” by Don Yaeger, and “Until Proven Innocent: Political Correctness and the Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case,” by Stuart Taylor. Both books account the case itself and the media attention surrounding it.
“The Duke Lacrosse case is important for at least two reasons,” said Tait. “First, it shows how America’s racial history can inflame and distort a criminal prosecution. Second, in a country which sends so many people to prison, often for very long sentences, it raises serious questions about the ethics of prosecutors and the behavior of the media in reporting on sensational accusations.”
Clayton is an assistant professor of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. She earned her Juris Doctorate, from The University of Tulsa.
Dr. Tait is an associate professor of the Department of History and Political Science. He earned a doctorate in U.S. social and intellectual history from Oklahoma State University.
