Rogers State University was hopping more than usual this week as several kangaroos and other exotic guests paid a visit to nursing and allied health students during Self-Care Week.

On Monday, April 28, and Thursday, May 1, Long Tail Farm of Owasso brought several young kangaroos and lemurs to the Health Sciences building to interact with nursing and other students as a form of stress relief and self-care during the days leading up to finals.

As part of the nursing faculty’s ongoing commitment to promoting wellness among nursing and health professions students, Self-Care Week is designed to encourage emotional regulation through intentional self-care.

“Nursing and health professions students face intense academic and clinical demands and taking time to recharge is vital for long-term success and well-being,” said Dr. Amber Sanchez, assistant professor of nursing and MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) program coordinator.

This year’s lineup included engaging, restorative activities like pet therapy with kangaroos and lemurs from Long Tail Farm, a rejuvenating sound bath experience with Heartland Holistic, and much more. These events are thoughtfully curated to help reduce stress, build resilience, and maintain mental balance, so students can thrive in their studies and build a foundation of self-care for their future nursing and health professions careers.

Long Tail Farm is a local farm offering private farm and exotic animal tours, including “Roo Gram” visits, during which, farm members will bring a Joey or other exotic animals to your home, work or school location for interaction, cuddles and photographs.
