RSU Names New Director For Pryor Campus

A longtime Mayes County resident has been named the new director of Rogers State University’s Pryor campus.

Sherry Alexander of Pryor began serving as director for the Pryor campus effective June 1.

“We are excited about the appointment of Sherry Alexander to the Pryor campus. She brings to the position a thorough understanding of the university’s operations, as well as a strong familiarity with the educational needs of Pryor and Mayes County,” said RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley.

As director, Alexander will oversee the campus’s day-to-day operations and serve as the university’s liaison with the community in order to identify the educational needs of Mayes County residents and regional employers. She replaces former director Leann Burger, who recently left the university to pursue another opportunity.

Alexander joined RSU in 2003 when she began working in the RSU Office of Development in areas including scholarships, fundraising, special events, the RSU Alumni Association and the Oklahoma Military Academy Alumni Association. She also served as a committee member for RSU’s 2005 Scholarship Auction. Before joining RSU, Alexander was manager for Welcome Aboard Travel in Pryor for 12 years.

She has been active in numerous community activities and organizations, including service as president of Pryor Creek Sertoma Club and director of the Miss Pryor Scholarship Pageant. She is married to Johnny Alexander and has four children, including three who currently attend Pryor Public Schools. A graduate of Chouteau High School, Alexander earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from RSU in fall 2004.

“These are exciting times for RSU in Pryor, and I am thrilled to have the chance to work with this group of outstanding faculty and staff who serve our students here in Pryor,” Alexander said. “RSU fulfills a very important role in our community by providing higher education opportunities to area students, including some who might not otherwise continue their education beyond high school.”

RSU is the only four-year university serving the Pryor and Mayes County area. More than 400 students are enrolled at the RSU Pryor campus, located at 421 S. Elliott. With the recent approval of the state’s higher education bond issue, RSU plans to begin expanding the Pryor campus by constructing new classrooms, a physical science lab, a resource area and other student-focused amenities.
