RSU Jazz Band to Perform First Fall Concert Oct. 16

The Rogers State University Jazz Band will perform the first of two fall concerts on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the historic Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore.

The band will perform a mixed repertoire of music, including Big Band standards such as “Woodchopper’s Ball,” by Woody Herman, and modern fusion jazz numbers like Arturo Sandoval’s “A Mis Abuelos.”

RSU senior Nic Pranger will be featured on the alto saxophone in the jazz standard “Stella by Starlight,” in addition to several other featured soloists.

The RSU Jazz Band features a full Big Band instrumentation of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section.

“This year’s band is slightly bigger than last year’s band, and has showed great improvement as well,” said Joe Cernuto, band director. “I’m very excited that the band is now comprised of more than half RSU students, which is a great accomplishment for us.”

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Will Rogers Auditorium. Admission is free.

After the first concert, new members are invited to join the band. Interested members should contact Cernuto by Oct. 22.
