The RSU Film Society will present the neo-noir film classic “Chinatown” on September 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Baird Hall Performance Studio.
The 1974 film stars Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway and was directed by Roman Polanski. Robert Towne’s script earned him an academy award for Best Original Screenplay and is regarded by critics as the finest ever written.
Chinatown will be the first of three films to be shown by the RSU Film Society. As a standalone work of art, it most admirably fulfills the three-fold mission of the society: expose students to high quality filmmaking, show films that intellectually and aesthetically engage viewers, and show films that entertain and delight audiences.
Of the films slated this fall none tick all the boxes like Chinatown, and Dr. Jim Ford, Director of RSU’s Honors Program, will explain why. After Dr. Ford’s introduction the film will be shown in its entirety.
The evening will conclude with a panel discussion led by Dr. Ford. The event is free and open to the public. The film is rated R for language and adult situations.
