RSU Faculty Honored for Excellence

Dr. Brian Andrews, center, receives the Pixley Excellence in Education Award from Dr. Richard Beck, RSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, and RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. The Pixley Award is the highest honor the university can bestow upon a faculty member.

Twelve Rogers State University faculty members were honored for excellence in teaching, scholarship/research and service during the recent graduation ceremonies.

Dr. Brian Andrews, associate professor in the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice, received the Pixley Excellence in Education Award, which is the highest honor bestowed upon an RSU faculty member.

The Pixley Award recipient is selected on the basis of a peer nomination and review process, conducted by the RSU faculty body. Made possible by the Pixley Endowment for Excellence in Education at RSU, the award was presented during commencement exercises on Saturday.

Dr. Andrews is an anthropological archeologist interested in the adaptations of prehistoric hunter-gatherers throughout the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains. Among his most recent projects is analyzing a recent excavation near Chelsea, which was filmed by a public television crew for inclusion in a documentary on archeological excavations throughout the world. Before joining the RSU faculty in 2012, he served for two years as RSU’s assistant athletic director for student development, where he oversaw the academic development for the university’s student-athletes.

During May 8 campus ceremonies, each of RSU’s schools presented its faculty awards.

In the School of Liberal Arts, Dr. Frank Grabowski, head and associate professor of the Department of English and Humanities, received the Gladys L. and Carl G. Herrington Excellence in Teaching Award. Andrews received the Gladys L. and Carl G. Herrington Excellence in Scholarship/Research for the School of Liberal Arts. Dr. Kevin Woller received the Gladys L. and Carl G. Herrington Excellence in Service Award. Micheal Jones received the Gladys L. and Carl G. Herrington Excellence in Teaching Award for adjunct faculty.

In the School of Business and Technology, Dr. Joel White received the Pfizer Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Todd Jackson received the Pfizer Excellence in Scholarship/ Research. Dr. Peter Macpherson received the Pfizer Excellence in Service. Angela Morris received the Pfizer Excellence in Teaching Award for Adjunct Faculty.

In the School of Mathematics, Science and Health Sciences, Claudia Glass received the Pfizer Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Jin Seo received the Pfizer Excellence in Scholarship/ Research. Dr. Marla Smith received the Pfizer Excellence in Service. Dr. Leo Noll received the Pfizer Excellence in Teaching Award for Adjunct Faculty.
