A collection of five-foot cardboard pencils, a series of wood and ceramic baby bottles and a pair of high-heeled shoes covered with thumbtacks – with the pin sides pointing out – are just a few pieces included in the annual Student Art Exhibition April 17-26 at Rogers State University.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Foundations Gallery, located in Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore. A public opening reception for the exhibition and an awards presentation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, in the gallery.
RSU art students will compete for scholarships in the exhibition, juried by RSU art faculty members. More than 300 pieces of art were submitted for inclusion in the exhibition and about a third of those were selected.
“We had many more submissions this year and that’s probably due to the fact that the number of art majors has almost doubled in the last few years,” said Gary Moeller, art professor.
The exhibition features the best photography, drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, graphic arts, and mixed media pieces created by RSU students during the current school year.
RSU offers a bachelor of fine arts in visual arts (with options in graphic design, multimedia and studio arts), a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts (which is also available online) and associate degrees in art with options in general art, art history and graphics. The degrees are offered by the RSU School of Liberal Arts.
