RSU Communication Student Receives Awards from Broadcast Association

Ricky Cagle, a senior communication major at Rogers State University, received first and second place for his radio productions during the annual Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Student Competition.

The competition was held recently at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. This year, the competition received 210 entries from 10 universities and community colleges across Oklahoma.

Cagle, who is from Big Cabin, Okla., received first place in the category of “radio entertainment short” for his skit featuring a new student arriving at college to enroll.

Cagle writes and produces programming on RSU Radio, and is the host of “No Dignity,” along with co-host Kyle “KO” Olson, which airs from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays. Olson also provided voices for Cagle’s award-winning skit.

Cagle also received second place in the category of “radio promotion” for a 30-second announcement titled “It’s Alien!” The promotion features RSU Radio as “the best terrestrial radio station around.”

He will receive the awards during the annual OAB/OBEA Student Day at the Oklahoma History Center on Thursday, March 3. The RSU Student Broadcasting Association Chapter will accompany several students to Oklahoma City for the event, which also will provide an opportunity to network with commercial stations.
