RSU Art Exhibitions in April to Feature High School and College Student Art

Two art exhibitions showcasing the work of high school and college students will be sponsored by Rogers State University in April.

The annual Emerging Artists High School Competition and Exhibition will be held from April 1 through April 23 at A Gallery of the Arts, Wolf Productions in downtown Claremore.

The juried exhibition will feature drawings, paintings, photography and sculptures by high school seniors, as well as high school students enrolled concurrently at RSU.

More than 50 pieces of artwork will be included in the exhibition, representing students from high schools in Claremore, Adair, Stillwater and other communities.

Students selected to show their work in the exhibition will receive tuition waiver scholarships to attend RSU in the fall.

The student artists will be honored at an opening reception for the exhibition from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Wolf Gallery.

The official poster for the upcoming Art on the Hill Invitational Art Festival, to be held April 23-34 on the RSU campus, will be unveiled during the reception. The poster was designed by Denny Schmickle, assistant professor, RSU Department of Fine Arts.

In addition, the annual RSU Student Art Exhibition will be held from April 8 through April 26 in the old Student Union Building on the RSU campus in Claremore. This annual exhibition features the best work by RSU students over the past academic year, said Gary Moeller, RSU art professor and chairman of the Department of Fine Arts. The exhibition will feature works in all media, and will reflect a diverse array of creativity, Moeller said.

A reception for the student art exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Old Student Union. The public is invited to attend.

RSU offers a bachelor of fine arts degree (B.F.A.) in visual arts with options in graphic design, multimedia and studio art.
