Rogers State University’s ‘Technology Day on the Hill’ Scheduled for Feb. 16

TechnologyDayOnTheHill

Rogers State University’s Department of Technology and Justice Studies wants to give learners of all ages and backgrounds the chance to learn about the university’s technology-related degrees and opportunities at the inaugural “Technology Day on the Hill.”

Slated for Friday, Feb. 16, Technology on the Hill is an informative day-long event tailored for potential students to explore RSU’s course offerings in the growing field of technology.

“Similar to other preview days hosted by the university, ‘Technology Day’ gives participants an overview of our programs and degree plans, the chance to learn about the admission process, scholarships, financial aid, residential life, and more,” said Laci Henegar, RSU STEM coordinator.

The day will be broken up into three seminars, each highlighting a different aspect of RSU’s technology-related programs.

“The first session will focus on Game Development and Artificial Intelligence,” Henegar said, “and discuss the fundamentals of game development and AI (artificial intelligence).”

The following seminar will spotlight Drone Flight Safety and Skills Challenge, at which, students will learn to master the art of planning drone flights and navigating the National Airspace System. This session will also aid learners in completing the Federal Aviation Administration’s Recreational UAS Safety Test, guide them in successfully piloting a drone through an obstacle course, and teach them how to code an autonomous flight along the same path.

The final seminar will feature Cyber and Information Security and help event attendees acquire knowledge with regards to safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII), practicing secure web browsing, and enhancing cyber awareness. This session will also explore code-breaking and cryptography.

All seminars will cover RSU degrees and career prospects within their respective fields.

Cost to attend is free but space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

“We want everyone to know that this is a ‘come one, come all’ event – open to learners of all ages, not just those at the high school level,” Henegar said. “We want everyone to feel welcome, regardless of their age, and experience what it’s like to be a university student and to decide if technology is something they might want to pursue.”

RSU’s “Technology Day on the Hill” will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 in Herrington Hall on RSU’s Claremore campus.
