High school students in the (Claremore/Bartlesville/Pryor) area can enroll in up to six hours per semester on a tuition-free basis at Rogers State University, beginning this fall.
The offer of free tuition is part of an initiative by RSU and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to make college more accessible and affordable to high school students.
“This is an opportunity for high school students to challenge themselves academically, save some money and get a jump on their education by completing college classes while they’re still in high school,” said Lindsay Fields, RSU director of enrollment management.
High school juniors and seniors who meet certain academic requirements may enroll in college-level classes at RSU through the university’s concurrent enrollment program.
To qualify, seniors must have an ACT composite score of 19 or above or a GPA of at least 3.0 and a top 50 percent class rank to enroll in classes at RSU. Juniors must have an ACT composite score of 21 or above or a GPA of at least 3.5 to enroll in college-level classes. Home-schooled students must be at least 16 years of age with an ACT score of 21 or above or 17 years of age with an ACT score of 19 or above. Certain ACT subject scores may be required of all students to enroll in some classes. Students also must present letters from their high school principal and parents providing permission to participate in the program.
Although tuition will be free, students will be required to pay fees that apply to the classes in which they enroll.
