If you’re ever at RSU’s Stratton Taylor Library, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for you to find Alexander Baassler.
Alexander, or “Alex,” is a self-described avid reader of novels, poetry, and much, much more.
“I could ramble for quite a while about literature and what it means to me,” Alex said. “I also write – typically poetry but sometimes prose – and I love to explore observations I make and the world around me, as well as what I am made up of as an individual.”
The Owasso resident and bibliophile is an academic advisor with Student Success at RSU.
A former RSU student and member of the Honors Program, Alex had hoped to return to the Hill to assist students, in much the same way as he did as a student worker at the Library – a hope that became reality when he joined the academic advising team.
“My favorite part of working at RSU is helping students reach their goals, whatever those goals look like,” he said. “I love being able to offer feedback and support to students in the decisions they make.”
During his time as a student, Alex was involved in RSU Radio and the Student Broadcast Association and helped restart Chillout – an event at which students relax, enjoy music and can win prizes.
“I got to see a couple of really great bands – Grand Apollo and Kitchen Slug – at Chillout,” he said, “and spend time hanging out with my friends just before Spring Break. Getting to spend time with people I love is priceless to me.”
In addition to books and music, Alex also has a passion for soccer, having played recreational youth soccer for 13 years, and playing intramural soccer during his junior and senior years.
“I’ve just started playing adult pick-up over at Claremore Soccer Club,” he said. “I love to play in midfield, but honestly, I just love to be anywhere on the field, doing anything — weaving past defenders on the ball or frustrating opposing attackers off the ball. That goes without mentioning my favorite team, FC Tulsa, or my favorite league, the Bundesliga.”
Additionally, Alex speaks and reads some German and is a fan of many German bands.
He is the second of four children in his family, one of whom is an RSU graduate, one of whom will be attending RSU, and the other studied art in Tulsa. He is currently engaged.
RSU’s academic advisors help guide students through their educational journey, ensuring they’re on track to earn the degree they want and working with them to overcome the challenges they encounter.
RSU students may schedule an appointment with their academic advisor to enroll in courses.
