Events for Everyone at RSU Homecoming 2010: Pride on the Prowl

A variety of events for students, alumni and friends of Roger State University are planned for RSU Homecoming 2010: Pride on the Prowl, Nov. 8-13 on the Claremore Campus.

Student events will build energy during the first part of the week. A kick-off party is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. in the Centennial Center, where students will receive free hot chocolate and the week’s full schedule.

Tuesday’s events include a spirit sheet contest for students and an office decorating contest for staff, during the day. Faux-sino Night, a no-stakes casino sponsored by the Campus Activities Team (C.A.T.), will begin at 8 p.m. in the Centennial Center ballroom.

The first public event is Wednesday at 2 p.m., when the annual Shopping Cart Parade winds from RSU’s old Student Union to the Centennial Center. That night, the Battle of the Bands will take place at 7 p.m. at the Will Rogers Auditorium hosted by the President’s Leadership Class.

A new addition to Homecoming will be held on Thursday, as the Hillcats basketball team will present a slam dunk contest and spirit rally. The event will begin at 2 p.m. in Bushyhead Fieldhouse, and is free and open to the public.

The Campus CAT Hunt, a scavenger hunt requiring participants to locate and photograph items and locations on campus, will take place Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Hillcat Hacker Invitational, benefiting the RSU Foundation and RSU Athletics. The Hacker is a golf tournament designed to put all players, from beginners to pros, on an even playing field. Players will use one club and non-destructive golf balls to navigate an 18-hole golf course layout that travels the campus landscape.

There is a $50 fee for individuals to play in the Hacker or $200 for a team. For more information or to register, call Amanda Faught at (918) 343-7768.

The annual Homecoming bonfire and pep rally will take place Friday night at 7 p.m. The band “The Last Slice” will perform and refreshments will be served.

The gameday tailgate party will begin at 11:30 a.m. Registration for the Alumni Tailgate Tent is $25. The fee includes a Homecoming T-shirt, Tailgate Lunch Ticket and an Alumni Section Ticket to both basketball games. All alumni registering for the tailgate also receive a one-year membership to the RSU Alumni Association. A $10 ticket to the Alumni Tent is available to anyone who only wants to eat.

For those with their own tailgate ideas, tailgate spots can be reserved online and prizes will be awarded for the best setup.

The RSU women’s basketball team tips off at 2 p.m. and the men tip off at 4 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center. During halftime of the women’s game, winners of the Most Spirited Shopping Cart, Most Spirited Office, Best Tailgate and Most Spirited Sheet will be announced.

The 2010 RSU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game. They will be joined by the Homecoming Prince and Princess from Claremont Elementary School, RSU’s partner in the Hillcub Program.
