Coomer Named President of Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association

Cathy Coomer, assistant professor in the Department of Communications at Rogers State University and general manager of RSU Radio, has been named president of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA) for 2012-2013.

Coomer recently was appointed to the president’s position during the OBEA annual meeting at the OBEA Student Awards Ceremony in Oklahoma City earlier this month.

The Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association is an association of broadcast educators from 15 Oklahoma colleges and universities working with electronic media professionals to strengthen broadcast education, encourage interest of electronic media professionals in broadcast education and exchange information and ideas among broadcast educators and electronic media professionals.

Coomer has been active in the OBEA since 2004, and serves as advisor for RSU’s Student Broadcasting Association.

RSU broadcast students have consistently earned recognition for their work in both TV and radio, and also have earned several prestigious scholarships recognizing their talent and hard work.

OBEA members work closely with the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters to promote broadcast education and professional preparation. OBEA partners with OETA-TV to host a yearly student/professional panel workshop, and hosts a student competition each spring to recognize excellence among Oklahoma students for their work in television and radio.
