All Rogers State University campuses will become tobacco free beginning July 1 in order to harmonize the university with Gov. Mary Fallin’s executive order prohibiting the use of tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, on state property.
The OU Board of Regents, the governing board for RSU, approved the university’s tobacco-free policy during its June 26 meeting. The policy prohibits tobacco use throughout all indoor and outdoor areas of buildings owned, leased, or operated by the university, including RSU housing/apartments, athletic facilities, in any vehicle owned or leased by the University, or anywhere on the RSU grounds. The tobacco ban applies to all persons on campus, including students, faculty, staff, contracted personnel, vendors and all visitors. It also prohibits the sale of tobacco on university property. The university will be installing tobacco-free signage throughout its campuses during July. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of the free cessation resources available through the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) or okhelpline.com. The helpline provides one-on-one counseling and a free two-week starter kit of nicotine replacement patches, gum or lozenges.
