About the Program

Whether it’s conserving natural resources, providing community healthcare, or training the next generation of scientists, the need for experienced and dedicated biologists has never been greater. That means more opportunities than ever: managing weather-related disasters, treating and preventing infections, finding cures for cancer, analyzing DNA, and even editing genes.

RSU’s Bachelor of Science in Biology prepares you to meet that demand with three areas of specialization, hands-on research, and field experiences that prepare you for careers in science, healthcare, or education. You’ll get small class sizes, attentive faculty, and state-of-the-art equipment that set you up for success in graduate school or the workforce.

Biology Program Features

  • Three immersive specializations
Choose from medical/molecular, environmental conservation, or general biology based on your goals.
  • State-of-the-art lab and field work
Use advanced tools like real-time PCR and Li-Cor imaging systems, and explore ecosystems through service-learning and fieldwork.
  • Career and graduate school prep
Whether you pursue a career in health, conservation, or research, you’ll be prepared to take exams like the GRE, MCAT, DAT, and PCAT.

Options

You’ll begin with core courses in biology, including botany, genetics, zoology, and research methods. From there, you’ll specialize in one of three tracks:

Environmental Conservation

Focuses on wildlife, game management, landscape ecology, aquatic biology, and threats to biodiversity. Students can also volunteer with Oklahoma’s Blue Thumb, a statewide water quality monitoring program.

Medical/Molecular Biology

Learn molecular techniques used in medicine and biotechnology, with experience in tissue differentiation, molecular lab work, and research methods.

General Biology

Offers a flexible mix of organismal, functional, cell, and molecular biology courses, ideal for students with broad interests or future graduate plans.
