RSU Upward Bound Participants Exhibiting Leadership through Service Learning

The RSU Upward Bound participants and Rebuilding Together Tulsa, a local nonprofit organization, will work at a home in need of repair Friday, June 17, 2011. More than 40 student and staff volunteers will focus on light trash removal, landscaping and painting.

The service learning project will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude by 3:00 p.m.

The Upward Bound program is a federal outreach program born from the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. It was established to improve the education statistics for disadvantaged youth. Participating students must be from low-income households, disabled, or from households where neither parent has a post-secondary education.

The goal of the RSU-Upward Bound Program is to increase secondary retention and graduation rates of 85 secondary students, as well as to increase post-secondary admission for these students upon graduation from high school.
