Rogers State University will be hosting its Centennial Parade at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, as part of its 100th birthday celebration.
Miss Oklahoma Kelsey Cartwright will serve as the Parade Marshal.
RSU’s first-ever parade will feature the Thunderbird Youth Academy Color Guard with more than 100 cadets, antique cars from the Tulsa and Oklahoma City Model A Car Clubs, area marching bands and floats designed by university and community groups.
RSU President Dr. Larry Rice and his wife Peggy will be traveling the parade route in a 1909 Ford Model T roadster, a vehicle as old as the institution. Several notable community members, including former RSU President Dr. Richard Mosier, also will ride in classic cars as part of the parade.
RSU Hillcat Athletes will march in the parade and the RSU Rodeo team will ride their horses as part of the event.
Parade participants will offer giveaway items for spectators lining the parade route. The parade will start at 2 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center and travel down Will Rogers Boulevard to the gazebo east of downtown. Area motorists should note that much of Will Rogers Boulevard will be closed during the parade.
The public is invited to enjoy the parade in person by lining the parade route. The public may also watch the event live on RSU Public Television or listen to parade commentary on RSU Radio. RSU professors Drs. Hugh Foley and Carolyn Taylor will host the RSU Centennial Parade live on RSU Public Television and simulcast on RSU Radio 91.3.
