The Claremore Reads Together organization and the Stratton Taylor Library at Rogers State University will present a public viewing of the film “Fahrenheit 451” on Sept. 19 and a discussion of the book “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury on Sept. 26. Both events are free and open to the public.
The film “Fahrenheit 451” will be presented in the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
A discussion of the book “Fahrenheit 451” will be held in Room 207 of the Stratton Taylor Library at 3:30 p.m. on the following Tuesday, Sept. 26.
The book discussion will feature a panel of RSU faculty members including Dr. Emily Dial Driver, Dr. Chip Rogers, Lori Butler and Alan Lawless, director of the Stratton Taylor Library.
Claremore Reads Together is the local chapter of One Book, One Community, a reading program founded in 1996 by two Seattle librarians to allow communities to read the same book at the same time and discuss it at different venues. One Book, One Community has since expanded to many communities throughout the U.S.
This is Claremore Reads Together’s first year, and they have chosen to feature “Fahrenheit 451,” which is a warning about government censorship, featuring “firemen” who burn books to keep people ignorant.
