RSU Homecoming 2011 To Include Old, New Traditions

Rogers State University will welcome alumni and friends to the Claremore campus for “RSU Homecoming 2011: Our Campus. Our Court.” Public events will be held Nov. 9 – 12.

Wednesday marks Homecoming’s first public event. The Party on the Patio will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Sarkeys Terrace outside the Centennial Center. Free chicken wings will be served, RSU Radio will provide the music and RSU cheerleaders will bring the spirit.

A slam dunk and 3-point contest will be held on Thursday. The Hillcats basketball teams will begin showing off their skills at 2:00 p.m. in Bushyhead Fieldhouse. This event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, everyone is encouraged to participate in the second annual Hillcat Hacker Invitational, benefiting the RSU Foundation and RSU Athletics. The Hacker is a golf-style tournament designed to put all players, from beginners to pros, on an even playing field. Players will use one club and non-destructive golf balls to navigate an 18-hole golf course layout that travels the campus landscape. Flights begin at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Check-in will be at the Sarkeys Terrace outside the Centennial Center.

Entry fees are $50 per individual and $25 per student. For more information or to register, call Amanda Faught at (918) 343-7768 or visit http://www.rsu.edu/homecoming/hacker.asp.

The annual Homecoming bonfire, concert and cookout will take place Friday at 7:00 p.m. The band “Brother Rabbit” will perform and the grill will be cooking. The event will be located west of University Village B and is free and open to the public.

The gameday tailgate party will begin at 11:00 a.m. For those with their own tailgate ideas, tailgate spots can be reserved online and prizes will be awarded for the best setup.

Alumni tailgate packages are available for $25. Packages include a Homecoming T-shirt, tailgate lunch ticket, a door prize ticket, and an admission ticket to both the women’s and men’s basketball games. For more information about the RSU Alumni Tailgate event, please call Marisa Littlefield at 918-343-6816.

The RSU women’s basketball team tips off at 2:00 p.m. against Friends University and the men tip off at 4:00 p.m. against Ozark Christian College at the Claremore Expo Center.

The 2011 RSU Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men’s game. They will be joined by the Homecoming Prince and Princess from Claremont Elementary School, RSU’s partner in the Hillcub Program.
