The Rogers State University Hillcat men’s basketball program on Monday signed small forward Camaron Dearinger, a transfer player from Glencoe.
“Camaron is a good strong player who shoots the ball well and has a good feel for the game,” said RSU men’s basketball head coach and athletic director Wren Baker.
The 6-foot, 6-inch, 205-pound Dearinger was an all-conference player at Glencoe High School, where he averaged 22.4 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game for the Panthers during his senior year in 2004. He played one year at Northwestern Oklahoma State University before transferring to Oklahoma State University to attend classes for the spring 2006 semester. He will enroll at RSU this fall.
Also attending the Monday afternoon signing event were his parents, Rick and Sue Dearinger of Glencoe.
Dearinger will redshirt during the 2006-07 season at RSU, but he is expected to have three years of eligibility remaining when the RSU Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball programs begin competition in fall 2007. The announcement of a head coach for women’s basketball is expected in the next few weeks.
Baker said he hopes to build his program around a core of incoming freshman and more experienced transfer students.
“Camaron really fits the mold of the type of player that we recruit here at RSU,” Baker said. “He’s not only a good player, but he’s also a good student and a good person, as well. We’re looking for players that can provide an impact both on and off the court.”
